Autumn weddings can often be limited to golds, greens, and ivory, with perhaps some jewel tone flowers for interest. However romantic this can be, we wanted to highlight more underused autumn tones for this Virginia wedding.
A gorgeous palace made of marble and stained glass, we brought in feminine and soft details for balance. Luxurious velvet fabric draped above the dinner table under the pergola, while neutral table settings allowed the autumnal flower arch to really stand out. The Oscar de la Renta ball gown was fitting for the early 1900s when the venue was built, with layers of sheer fabric adorned with lace floral appliqués. The bridal look was one of utter romance with just a hint of old Hollywood glam. According to the venue’s website “Swannanoa was built in 1912 by James Dooley for his wife, Sallie May Dooley. The Dooleys built this exquisite 23, 000 square foot marble mansion on Afton mountain to use as their summer home to beat the heat and humidity of Richmond. The exterior is white Georgian marble from the US while all the interior is Italian imported marble. The Tiffany stained glass window at the top of the grand staircase is of Sallie May, his wife and is the largest Tiffany found in any private home in America.” The majesty of this Virginia venue makes it a beautiful choice for a wedding in any season, but the autumn colors on the mountains was truly breathtaking. |
